Conservation Connect

2021  |  UX / UI design  |  Visual identity

The Conservation Connect platform was designed to provide a seamless way for donors to engage with conservationists and discover impactful nature conservation projects across the globe. The platform offers donors a comprehensive overview of past grant recipients as well as shortlisted projects, making it easy to explore initiatives, review applicants’ work, read references and achievements, and understand who is currently supporting them. By presenting this information in a transparent and accessible format, the platform strengthens trust and fosters meaningful connections between funders and conservation practitioners.

The client, PBNF (Prince Bernhard Nature Fund), approached us with a clear vision and an extensive list of ideas for potential features.

My role was to translate these ambitions into a functional, user-friendly digital experience. I collaborated closely with the client to design a clean, intuitive interface that accommodated the needs of three distinct user types: donors, conservationists, and administrators.

Key features I developed included a sophisticated filtering system to help donors and conservationists quickly navigate projects of interest, custom admin dashboards for streamlined platform management, and basic networking tools to facilitate collaboration and long-term engagement. The result was a platform that not only simplified the process of matching donors with projects but also reinforced PBNF’s mission to make conservation funding more transparent, efficient, and impactful.

The project began with a discovery phase where I created three moodboards based on the initial client meetings. Instead of choosing a single direction, the client was drawn to different elements from two of them. I combined these into a unified visual style that balanced modern minimalism with warmth and approachability, which became the foundation for the brand’s identity.

From there, I developed wireframes to map user flows and structure content.  Once approved, these evolved into the first high-fidelity pages, designed in line with the moodboard direction. At the same time, I created a UI kit and a basic design system, ensuring visual consistency across platforms and providing a scalable foundation for future development.

I also designed a minimalistic logo that was versatile and adaptable across both digital and print applications. Clean, timeless, and easy to reproduce, it gave the brand a clear visual anchor while reinforcing its modern and approachable persona.

Together, these elements formed a cohesive design language, aligning the client’s vision with a product that felt intuitive, trustworthy, and future-proof.
